Product Overview

Kawai CX202

Let’s talk about the Kawai CX202 – a brand new offering from the company that’s sure to impress the most discerning players. It’s part of Kawai’s slick new CX series, dropping in the fall of 2025, and it’s got that perfect mix of features and great feel and sound in a compact housing. Where do we start with the Kawai CX202? The Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand samples of course – they’re rich, warm, and exactly what any pianist wants to hear from their digital. Plus, it’s got a bunch of other awesome (and very usable) sounds to mess around with, further expanding the capabilities of your piano. For the price, the CX202 is a total steal, delivering a top-tier piano experience and a pile of features that make it a joy to play.

It’s not just about the sound, though – the Kawai CX202 is a sleek looking instrument. The CX202 features a modern design cabinet in Rosewood, Black, or White finishes that’ll fit right into any space, whether it’s a cozy apartment or a fancy studio. The 40-watt stereo speakers produce a crystal-clear sound that can easily fill the room. With dual headphone jacks, you can dive into your practice sessions without disturbing anyone – or share the experience with a teacher in a private lesson. The Bluetooth MIDI/Audio plus support for apps like PianoRemote and PiaBookPlayer are a useful bonus. That’s your entry to further tweaking settings on your piano, jamming along to tracks, or learning new pieces with ease.

Action

Kawai’s got a knack for making keyboards that feel like the real thing, and the CX202’s Responsive Hammer Compact II action is no exception. You get 88 graded keys that feel just right – light and lively up top, heavier down low, like you’re playing a legit grand piano. It’s perfect for building up your finger strength or just getting lost in your favourite piece of music. The triple-sensor tech and improved cushioned keys keep things super smooth and quiet, so you can passionately practice at 2 a.m. without any worry of waking up the entire house.

Sound Engine

The CX202’s got Kawai’s beloved Harmonic Imaging sound engine under the hood, and it’s loaded with the jaw-dropping tones of the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand. This sample set sounds so good – warm, full, and alive, with every little nuance from soft and delicate to big and bold. On top of that, you’ve got a bunch of other sounds to play with, like electric pianos, organs, and strings, plus Dual and Split modes for mixing things up. Want to feel like you’re playing in a massive concert hall? Pick one of the six reverb settings—Room, Cathedral, you name it. The 40-watt speakers make everything sound huge, and the Spatial Headphone Sound mode is like stepping into your own private music world.

Connectivity

The Kawai CX202 comes equipped for the modern world. Bluetooth MIDI and Audio let you connect your phone or tablet in a snap, so you can further tweak your settings or pull up sheet music on the PianoRemote or PiaBookPlayer apps. You can even stream your favorite audio tracks through the CX202’s speakers for play-along sessions. USB-MIDI makes it a breeze to connect to your DAW for recording, and those dual headphone jacks (1/4” and 1/8”) mean you and your teacher – or your duet partner can both plug in and play without making a sound.

  • USB to HOST for MIDI and audio
  • Bluetooth MIDI and Audio
  • Two headphone jacks (1/4” and 1/8”) for shared or solo practice
  • DC In jack for power

  • Internal RecorderGot a melody stuck in your head or want to get that original composition down before you forget it? The 3-song recorder with a 10,000-note capacity lets you capture it on the fly. Play it back to see how you’re progressing or share it with your musical collaborators – it’s a fantastic way to keep your ideas flowing.

  1. Sydney James

My daughter recently began taking piano lessons and without doing a lot of research I purchased another well-known brand for the house. We hadn’t heard of Kawai until we saw one at a friend of mine’s house, and the it was hard to ignore how much better it sounded, and more to the point, my daughter also noticed right away. Luckily we were able to return it (still within Amazon’s return window) and picked up the CX202. She loves the sound, and while it’s still early days, quality wise it seems very solid too.
